Capturing the Friedmans, a heavy-handed, but very compelling documentary is on Netflix (direct link to instant).
The film follows a father & son who are convicted of pedophilia amidst the pedophile-catching mania of the 80’s. What separates this film from most documentaries is the family’s obsession with filming themselves on 8mm & vhs cameras before & during the trial.
The outrageous range of the characters’ identities and ideologies in this documentary far outpace anything that could be written — they are literally unbelievable.
Still from the film: the father’s license plate read COMPUTER, which is very funny.
